On the job

Has this happened to any of you?
I'm sure it has because it happens to me... a LOT, it seems.

Yesterday I walked into a book store and took a nice, lazy walk around the aisles. I was enjoying an hour of quiet until I came upon 2 employees talking rather loudly. Well... one of them was talking loudly and animatedly - bitching about her JOB.
Bitching about one's job is no crime, hell I've done it a million times.
But NEVER within earshot of my clients.
And NEVER EVER in full view, right in front of my clients.

Later, I asked myself... why didn't you say anything?
And I don't have a good answer.
I didn't fear bodily harm.
I didn't fear scorn and ridicule.
I didn't fear getting thrown out of the store...

Yet I couldn't find it in me to say
LOOK, LOSER. IF YOU DON'T LIKE YOUR JOB, THEN QUIT.
OR OFFER UP A SOLUTION TO YOUR EMPLOYER FOR YOUR PETTY PROBLEM.
AND IF YOU CAN'T, THEN KEEP YOUR FUCKING MOUTH SHUT IN FRONT OF THE CUSTOMERS.

Maybe I'll go back next week!

a sad state affairs of the youth of today... they feel their job is to earn money, not actually be required to do anything for said money, just sit there and earn it...
